Music Review: Kittie – “I’ve Failed You”

I was a huge fan of Kittie when their deubt album Spit came out. It was just such a quality album and their single “Brackish” is a top 20 song of all time for me. So many quality tracks, it seemed like the sky was the limit for the Canadian female metal band. Oracle and Until the End were quality albums, but the band was undergoing line-up changes and it showed. By the time I managed to see the live, they had basically abandoned their earlier albums on their live set and it was a little disappointing.

By the time their previous album In the Black came out I basically has fallen off the bus. I need to go back to check it out after hearing their new album I’ve Failed You.

Kittie has always been a hard technical band that breaks the mold of the “Female Fronted” metal movement that has been picking up steam. They can do the melodic, clean vocaled tracks that have come to define that, but Kittie never really looked to fit into that niche. They have always been a little closer to Black Metal and Death Metal.

I’ve Failed You a quality album the title track opens up the album perfectly. Track 6 “Empires (Part 2)” is a great track. Track 2 “We are the Lamb” rocks. The album as a whole is just plain quality. It is hard without being clogged. It makes for some quality mosh tracks when they go on tour this fall. Morgan Landers’ vocals are great throughout.

Fans of Thrashy Hardcore Metal and/or women kicking ass, should give this album a look.

I give this album a 7/10 a solid buy for fans of the band or genre, it is on sale August 30th, of course support musicians don’t pirate metal.

For those of you here in Sacramento, Kittie comes to the Boardwalk on September 17th.

Of course you can listen to I’ve Failed you, along with all the other new Metal Releases here at KSSU.
