WWE Wrestlemania Preview as of March 8, 2012

WWE Wrestle Mania Preview as of March 8, 2012

Wresltmania is right around the corner, and for us wrestling fans, it is the Superbowl of our sport. Although professional wrestling does not have the wide popularity it once had in the Attitude era, it still puts on an entertaining product, and this Wreslemania, may be already be the biggest of them all. So lets break down the matches one by one and see just why, with only 5 matches so far announced, this ‘Mania is already not one to miss.

-Intercontinental Championship Match
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. The Big Show

Two Wresltmanias’ ago, Cody and partner Ted broke out of Legacy and took on Randy Orton, at that time it was predicted that Ted DiBiase Jr. would be the break out star. Last Wresltmania, Cody defeated Rey Mysterio, and Ted wasn’t even on the card. Now, ted DiBiase is but a memory, and Cody Rhodes has proven himself and helped bring back the prestige the IC title once had. With that being said, this match, although promising, is not the one many people had wanted, for either Show, or Cody. Instead people wanted Cody to take on his half-brother Goldust. This was the way things were shaping up around January, but a minor injury to Goldust seemed to have extinguished those hopes for Goldie. On the Big Show side of things, it was expected he would be tangling with big Shaq in Miami, Shaq had been saying as much for a few months, which is perhaps why the WWE decided to ultimately nix that plan.
-World Heavyweight Championship

Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Sheamus.
Who? I hear you all say. Yes Daniel Byan and Sheamus are in Wresltemania. For those of you who don’t know, Byan rocks and is one of the best WRESTLERS in the company today, coming out from Ring of Honor and trained by the Heart Break Kid Shawn Michales, Bryan has finally come out on his own finding a character that suits him nicely. Never getting over as a face, or good guy, Bryan has found his calling playing the coward heel, not something many are willing to do. This match may be a darkhorse pick for match of the night.
-WWE Championship
CM Punk (c) vs. Y2J Chris Jericho
If the previous match is the sleeper pick then this is the obvious one for match of the night. returning to Wrestlemania, is the Ayatollah of Rock n Rolla himself, the best in the world at what he does Chris Jericho vs The Voice of the Voiceless, the 2nd City Saint, the Best in the World CM Punk. This match has a feel of old vs new. The Chris Jericho of the new generation against the man himself. The pure athleticism and storytelling ability of these two performers is match nowhere else, already this match is being compared to the Steamboat-Savage match way back when and even the Jericho-HBK match at Wrestlemania 1With Jericho’s losing streak at the Rumble and Elimination Chamber, it will be interesting to see who comes out as the new WWE Champ.
Hell in a Cell

Undertaker vs. HHH (Shawn Michales as special guest referee)
Will the Deadman go 20-0 at Wresltmania? Well before HBK got involved the outlook may not have been certain. However, now that the match is Hell in a Cell and has a special ref. I do not see anyway the Undertaker can lose. Screw job finish, double count out, perhaps, but the intrigue in this match is almost gone. It will never the less, be a brutal, violent, perhaps bloody affair with 3 of the all time wrestling greats in one ring, under one cell.
-The grudge match over one year in the making
John Cena vs The Rock
This match was announced at the end of the last Wrestlemania. It guaranteed that it would be a huge event. No Dwane Johnson here, The Rock is back in full force and looking to take this jabroni all the way to the Smackdown Hotel, and Cena, much like Austin, is looking to check in and burn it down. This match stems from what many in the business see as a real grudge between the two. The Rock offended and hurt many by leaving the WWE to pursue his career, only to periodically return, never for a full time stint, taking spots from new younger guys, only to leave again. The Rock see’s John Cena as a joke, how do you go from Austin 3:16 and the People’s Champ The Rock, to the true blue superman boyscout John Cena. The two have often been compared, both love the business, both put in there all, and both can cut a hell of a promo. Going in to Mania, it did not look like Cena had a chance, but on Raw for the past few weeks, it seems Cena may just get the best of Rocky just yet.
