2012 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 1-5

2012 NFL Mock Draft Picks: 1-5

The NFL draft approaches us in April and mock drafts flood the internet over who experts believe each player a team will draft. For many the annual NFL Draft is like a holiday and families gather around the TV or radio and await their team’s picks. The draft can make or break a team’s season and or future years. Here I feature what I predict will happen in this year’s draft. Mocks will be posted in sub sequence of picks 1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-26, and 27-32. Here’s picks 1-5.

1. IND: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

The Indianapolis Colts are officially in re-building mode following their cutting of Peyton Manning. It’s no secret that the Colts will be selecting a signal-caller with their first pick. QB’s Andrew Luck (Stanford) and Robert Griffin III (Baylor) are the top two prospects at the Quarterback position. The decision is easy for the Colts because Luck has been the consensus number one Quarterback the past two years for teams to pick around draft team. Thus, the Colts will likely select Andrew Luck with the number one pick of the draft.

2. STL (projected trade to CLE): Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

This pick is no secret; the number two guy in the draft will be Quarterback, Robert Griffin III. He won’t be a Ram but he will be a Brown or a Redskin. My best bet is that he will be a Brown because the Browns have multiple first round picks to offer the Rams. Robert Griffin the III is one of the most dynamic players to ever come out of the draft, he can throw lights out and he can flat out run. His upside is ridiculous, and teams will be looking to put this talent on their squad come April.

3. MIN: Matt Kalil, OT, Southern California

The Vikings seem to have found their Quarterback last year with the selection of Christian Ponder. The rule to helping your young Quarterback out is to give him weapons or protect him. The Vikings will choose to protect their investment and select Offensive Tackle, Matt Kalil out of USC. This pick is a no-brainer for the Vikings who need to protect Ponder so he doesn’t end up like the Lion’s Matthew Stafford (injured and on his back). Kalil is a polished tackle prospect and he will protect Ponders blindside for years to come.

4. CLE (projected trade to STL): Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

This pick will reflect the trade with STL, whereas CLE receives the second overall pick and the Rams receive this pick and the twenty second overall pick. The Rams will take Wide Receiver, Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State. This pick will address the Rams issues of being unable to provide Sam Bradford with targets on offense. Blackmon is a top talent and he does everything well. The Rams need a solid playmaker on the outside and the two-time Biletnikoff winner will improve a dismal Rams offense.

5. TB: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

The Buccaneers failed to improve this year and looked like lost children. The Buccaneers need to finally replace Ronde Barber because he can’t play forever, and their replacement will be Cornerback, Morris Claiborne, LSU. He’s the top corner prospect and he plays solid. He’s considered a blue-print prospect, he’s not as dynamic as former teammate Peterson but he’s more a pure corner which the Bucs need.

Tune in for picks 6-11.
