You walk down a dusty, desert trail, large rock formations on either side of you. Cars line your path. It is late, no source of light other than your flashlight and distant colors on the horizon. The closer you get, the louder the thumping becomes. Nestled in a large dust bowl, is a dance floor defined by the people that form a spherical shape around the stage.
People sit, and stand, on ledges (high and low) that are a natural part of the rocks that stand in this desert. A laser light show emanates from the stage. Perfectly straight, conical, green lines all in a row shoot out into the night sky. Reds, blues, purples, and yellows jet across the giant surfaces of the rocks that tower above the crowd. Circles, squiggles, and things that look like something moving under a petri dish move across the dirt below. Booming sound reverberates throughout the desert. The stage is large, and set above the crowd. On either side of the stage, narrow platforms jut out forward, creating a space for anyone who wants to come dance on stage without being able to get near the band. The bands are all different. There are satire musicians like Weird Al Yankovic and Bob Ricci. There are interesting musical acts from other countries. Perhaps they would set up a special place for the virtual pop star, Hatsune Miku, to make an appearance. There would be a good deal of electronica in my dream concert. A lot of favorites like, “Send Him to Outer Space.” I’d even throw in some of the racier and fun songs from musicals such as Avenue Q. It would be a very strange, very fun, concert in the middle of the Nevada desert.
