Aerrow Shapiro’s Record Club – January 2013 – Night Visions by Imagine Dragons (2012)

Formed in 2008-2009, Imagine Dragons hail from Las Vegas, which is also well known for another band called The Killers.  At the beginning of their career, they released two EP’s (Imagine Dragons and Hell and Silence) before signing on to Interscope Records.  Since 2012, they’ve released another EP (Continued Silence) and the album Night Visions.

Night Visions

The album’s lead single, “It’s Time”, provides a folk-rock sound with modern influences while adding some keyboard and piano and a memorable chorus.  The next single, “Radioactive,” maintains their alt-rock sound while showing influences of dubstep.  “Amsterdam” (which was, for a limited time, released as a free Single of the Week on iTunes) combines piano and guitar with a driving drumbeat resulting in a memorable upbeat rock track.  The follow-up single “Hear Me” emphasizes the guitar in another upbeat rock track worth listening to.

In addition to that, there are some songs that definitely fit as the highlights of Night Visions.  “Tiptoe” provides electro-tinged rock with the use of synthesizers and a catchy set of riffs.  “On Top of the World” delivers a bit of calypso with a kettle drum-sounding melody and another catchy chorus.  “Every Night” offers another memorable tune accompanied by verses and choruses that are simple to sing to and a drum beat worth getting into.
In conclusion, this album is worth checking out.  If the aforementioned songs are satisfying enough upon listening to them, I recommend the entire album, thus making this my album pick for January 2013.  That about wraps up my article for Aerrow Shapiro’s Record Club.  Tune in next time at around the first week of next month for another album pick.
