CityWalk Rocks New Year’s Eve

By: Joanne Serrieh

I always say that last minute plans turn out to be the best. A few weeks before winter break I came across an event page on Facebook about an annual New Year’s event that is put together by Universal CityWalk in Universal City, California. It was featuring one of my favorite former contestants from The Voice, Diego Val, and another former contestant named Jamar Rogers. The event page stated that there will be four different stages set up throughout CityWalk where three of the stages will have live DJs and the main stage will also have a DJ and live performances by Diego Val and Jamar Rogers. The price was $55 per vehicle to park and the price included ALL of the entertainment for the night. Yes, this sounded like it was too good to be true to me. I did some research and found some pictures and videos from the 2012 New Year’s Eve event and it looked pretty awesome so I thought it would be fun to go and check it out.

Like I said this event did sound a little too good to be true so honestly I was afraid of being disappointed but this truly turned out to be one of the best New Year’s Eve events I have ever been to. The main stage area was all standing general admission, so we were not able to reserve a spot- the only way we could do that was to stand in line an hour before we were allowed to enter in order to get the spot we wanted. That is what we did. Our hour wait in the cold payed off and we were able to stand in the very middle of the very front row.

Diego Val was the first to take the stage after DJ Howly mixed some great beats and songs and got every single person to dance.  Diego sang a couple of original songs and he also covered other songs that made him popular on The Voice like “Animal” by Neon Trees and “Use Somebody” by Kings Of Leon. Diego is definitely a great performer. He had every young lady there mesmerized because of his amazing voice and the fact that he was playing his guitar the whole time was like the cherry on top. He had my attention the whole time and I was not bored for a single second. I was a little heartbroken when Diego finished singing but it was time for Jamar Rogers to take over the stage. That is exactly what he did, he took over the stage. I went to the event knowing I was in love with Diego and I left in love with both Diego and Jamar. Jamar also sang some covers but his original songs were amazing. My favorite thing about Jamar’s performance was that one song the audience was smiling and dancing along and another song everyone was getting emotional with the song he was performing. My favorite song that he performed was an original called “Tug of War.” It is a very emotional song with a great beat to it and his voice live was just so powerful it made the song that much better. If you like Usher, Trey Songz, or other similar artists you will like Jamar Roger’s original song “Tug of War.” After Jamar’s performances there was a fireworks show following a countdown to ring in the new year. One of the best fireworks shows I have ever seen, it seriously made me feel like a little kid again.
