Concert Review: Drake Ft. Miguel and Future- Would You Like Tour

drake would you like a tour

On November 18th, 2013, Canadian recording artist and rapper Drake made a stop in the city of Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena in support of his third studio album, Nothing Was The Same. Produced by Live Nation, the tour also included rap and R&B singer Miguel and rapper Future and the opening number also included PartyNextDoor and a guest performance with Drake by Jhene Aiko.

The people were already filling up the seats in the arena before the opening act started- guaranteeing a jam-packed show. The opening act was young Canadian singer PartyNextDoor. He had performed background vocals for Drake’s latest album then also released his first single featuring Drake late summer. Second up was American hip hop artist Future.  In April 2012, he released his major label debut album Pluto, to positive reviews. His performance was no disappoint to his hip hop lyric fans and live performance of his lead single, “Karate Chop” among other songs.

Miguel-Kool-Haus-TorontoAfter a brief break to change the stage, Miguel hit the colorfully lighted stage with a full set of musicians. His performance was beyond great. Miguel is truly an artist. He can do it all- making singing, dancing, and entertaining look so easy. He performed most of hits from his most recent album Kaleidoscope Dream, like “Adorn” and “How Many Drinks?” Also performed were his single hits like “Sure Thing” from his first debut album, All I Want Is You Like. He also did not forget to seduce the ladies with his charm and provocative dance moves. I personally really enjoyed his show and appreciate him more as a true artist. You can tell a lot about singer’s talent when they sing live.

Finally but definitely not least, Drake was the last to WOW the audience. The stage set was incredible. With a huge projector screen as the back drop, graphics and scene from his videos were shown throughout the concert. In the middle of the stage, there was a lighted halo ramp with a drake-cover-650musician and DJ pit in the middle, in which Drake made his way freely around during the show. His musical performance included 25 plus songs, most from his Nothing Was the Same album and other fan favorites like “Headlines”, “Crew Love” and “The Motto”. Future joined the stage with Drake for rundown of “Love Me”, “Honest” and “Same Damn Time”. The audience loved this musical reunion. In the middle of the show there was a sweet duo featuring Jhené Aiko.

One girl was lucky enough to be brought on to the stage. Drake introduced her to the crowd, held her hand and sang a part of “Hold On We’re Going Home” and finished with a hug to all the girls’ jealous in the arena.

The best part of the concert was the surprise ring stage that came down from the middle of the stadium towards the end of the concert. In the elevating stage, he went around greeting and shouting out to the people. The audience went crazy: jumping, screaming and dancing.

All in all, the ambience was lively and “turnt up.”  The opening acts definitely helped set the hyped up mood. Miguel provided a nice variety over the rap and hip music the predominated. Drake brought his all and showed his love to his fan.
