Why I Hate Online Shopping

The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year for retail stores. Not only are these places packed over the weekend but they become a traffic magnet on weekdays too.

Online shopping has become more popular over the years where you can sometimes find exclusive deals available only on websites. This can help holiday shoppers shop on their own time, whether they choose to do so late at night or early in the morning before heading out to work. add to cart

I know there are tons of reasons why some might say online shopping is the best thing that has ever happened. I still hate it and I have some of my own reasons listed below. I am pretty sure my hate for online shopping may have been a result of always having a bad experience with it. Here are some of my reasons:

  1. Pictures can be deceiving. Anyone who has an Instagram account probably knows this by now. Take a picture, apply a filter, and you just created a professional looking photo to virtually share with everyone! With online shopping, the best photos are used for whatever product you’re buying. Once you receive the item you come to realize that the shade of color isn’t the same, the quality is worse than what you saw, or it’s simply not what you expected as a result of the deceiving photo.
  2. Shipping costs make up for discounts. Do you remember that one time you spent a good two hours adding items to your online shopping cart thinking you’re getting the best deals? Well, do you remember how shocked you were when you realized shipping will cost you the same amount as the items you’re purchasing? This has happened to me multiple times and it added to my hate for online shopping. Nothing bothers me more than websites hiding their online-shopping-y-u-take-all-my-money shipping fees until you click, “check out.”
  3. If something doesn’t fit then you’re back to square one. If you’re one of those people who choose to shop online because you don’t have time to go to the actual store or maybe you just don’t want to deal with other humans, then make sure you are 100 percent sure that you will be satisfied with whatever you purchase online. If you’re not happy with what you receive then you’ll have to end up going to either the store to return the item or to UPS to ship back whatever you bought. You might as well just go buy the items from a store to save yourself the hassle.
  4. On time shipping is not always guaranteed. If you want something then go get it. If you don’t want it right away then order it online and keep waiting for it. I get very impatient especially if I expect to get something five days later but instead it arrives eight days later because of some holiday that I didn’t know existed.
  5. Online shopping leads to other online distractions. It is easy to find yourself browsing random websites when you originally got on your laptop to check your email. With online shopping, you might be looking for one specific thing and end up adding five other items to your shopping cart. Items that you might not necessarily need but now you want them because you believe you found some good deals!

Regardless of all of the points that I made, I still shop online sometimes. I don’t think I can completely stay away from online shopping but I can’t say that all online deals are deceiving. But unfortunately, I still hate online shopping and I can only stare at the phone case that I last bought through Amazon for so long until I decide to throw away the ugly bedazzled piece of plastic.
