On February 1, UFC 169 fights were headlined by UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao against Urijah Faber and featured the co-main event of Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo defending his title against Ricardo Lamas.
Renan Barao def. Urijah Faber via first-round TKO
Jose Aldo def. Ricardo Lamas via Unanimous decision
Alistair Overeem def. Frank Mir via unanimous decision
Ali Bagautinov def. John Lineker via unanimous decision
Abel Trujillo def. Jamier Varner via second-round KO
Urijah Faber: With this loss he has become a gatekeeper for the bantamweight division. I believe he has become the Kenny Florian of the Division. He is the best fighter without a title, always a step behind of the champions (Aldo, Barao, Cruz ). He is 0-6 in title fights which leads me to believe that he might not be able to win the big one. The sad fact is Faber is the only one in the lighter division that has the star power to carry a pay per view. This might be the last chance Faber gets to win a UFC Title.
Jose Aldo: Aldo cleaned out the featherweight division and will relinquish his belt. It looks like he will be moving up to lightweight and challenging Anthony Pettis for the belt. Dana White, the UFC President, has given Aldo the green light for the move.
Herb Dean: One of the Best Refs in the sport is under fire for the so-called early stoppage in the Barao-Faber fight. During the fight Faber was covering up while Barao was landing strikes to the side of the head. Herb told Faber to do something to signal that he was okay. Faber gave the thumbs up but Herb didn’t see it and stopped the fight. Herb will be under the microscope on his next fight to make sure that he doesn’t make the same mistake twice.
