Archer Season 5 Review (Spoilers)

archer vice 2

Archer has just hit it’s fifth season with Archer Vice! If you haven’t caught the show yet let this be your wake up call. The voice of Sterling Archer is played by H. Jon Benjamin whom you may know as the voice of Bob from Bob’s burgers. Basically Archer is an inept James Bond figure who goes through zany adventures with an eclectic crew that at times seem a little more then unstable. This is all in addition to the huge amount of references towards other shows, old movies and popular media that is prevalent throughout each episode. Specifically references to Burt Reynolds (who actually voiced himself on the show) and the movie Smokey and the Bandit are some of my favorite.

archer viceThe cast of Archer work for a fictitious organization known as ISIS: International Secret Intelligence Service which have them running around the whole world, including the depths of the ocean to a helium filled blimp, and even out of this world.. literally- they go to space. They accomplish missions that seem near impossible before Archer does something stupid to sabotage their attempts at completing the mission. Somehow regardless of whatever unforeseen setback they always come out unscathed, or at least close to it.

A few people haven’t come out on top as the show has progressed, who have been dealt with by Dr. Krieger, a man who isn’t archer-viscouscoupling-topreally a doctor of medicine, or the other type either. Rumored to be a genetic clone of Hitler and constantly experimenting on the crew with or without their permission; he isn’t without his good side, he likes Rush. Krieger also makes the time to spend with the people who really matter to him such as his fiance, a holographic, self aware, artificial intelligence which he created himself. Which is actually one of his more tame inventions as he has developed a robotic arm for devious uses, and he is not limited to mechanical devices. Krieger has ventured into the fields of cloning, merging animal and man into a new life form, following in the footsteps of Frankenstein, and bringing back the dead.

Krieger is but one character in a plethora of dynamic individuals that have all grown over the span of the series. The show also touches down on some more serious issues such as cancer, reminding everyone that these are serious issues that can touch anyone. This show is multilayered like an onion, or a Shrek.

This is actually one of my favorite show’s out right now, and it currently airs every Monday at 10pm on FX.

I’d give it a 10/10 any day.
