A Fun Place in Sacramento: Capitol Park

2. Old West Hospitality and Fun Awaits You in Sacramento!

Sacramento is a great city. I always tell people that Sacramento is like a big city with a small town feel.  If you want to go out and hit the bars, there is always a variety or if you want to take walk by the river, you can do that as well. Plus, once you get the city down, you can go anywhere in Sacramento without ever getting on the freeway.  Capitol Park, Sacramento’s gem and the location of the State Legislature, is a must-see for locals and visitors alike.

Along with the many choices of how to spend your Saturday evening, we all have our favorite spot or thing to do.cap par

One of my favorite things to do during the day or night and all year around is visit the State Capitol in downtown Sacramento at Capitol Park.  There is always something new to see and do. You can go inside the building and take a tour of this historic place.  There are also different exhibits of California history year around. During holidays, they have special musical performances.

Janet Fullwood/Donner Summit 10/05Outside is a whole new place. Capitol Park offers a relaxing time. There are gardens surrounding the area including the World Peace Rose Garden and trees from around the world.

Capitol Park also features memorials that are significant to California, like the Civil War Memorial Grove, the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the California Veterans Memorial. You also might catch a raccoon or two in the orange trees.

There are also many events that take place at Capitol Park like marathons, festivals and community causes. My favorite is the lighting of the Christmas tree.

All in all, Capitol Park is a great place to visit and the best part is that it’s free!
