Just Movement Robert DeLong

Seattle-born and Los Angeles-based electronic musician Robert DeLong fuses EDM influences with singer/songwriter and pop workings.  With his use of MIDI interfaces and live mixing, he creates music through keyboards, drum pads, drum sets, and gaming controllers.  His debut album Just Movement was released early 2013, summing up the influences that shape his musical world.

Its lead single “Global Concepts” (accompanied by a video that aired on various TV outlets, including MTV2, notably through its block 120 Minutes) provides a taste of what is to come in the rest of the album.  This electro-dance-driven track is mixed with funky drums and percussion reminiscent of Caribbean rhythms.  When the song asks the listener through its lyric, “Did I make you [expletive] dance?” this question seems to become the album’s mission statement, especially considering the sounds on the other tracks.

Previously on my 2012 retrospective, I wrote about my Top 10 Songs of 2012.  In this article, I am rounding off this alt/indie retrospective of the year with my Top 5 Albums of 2012.  The reason why, is that I don’t have the time to focus on every album released this past year, which could arguably be a very tedious task.  As a result, to cut out some work for me, I decided to go with 5 rather than 10.  So without further ado, here’s the list.

Where were you in November 2007?  For many gamers (if not all), they started experiencing a game that would later become one of the best franchises ever put out by a gaming studio called Harmonix.  On November 20th, 2007, a game called Rock Band came out, which expanded on the guitar game play from their previous work on Guitar Hero and combined additional elements, such as drums and vocals.  In celebration of its fifth anniversary, I’m writing about my experiences playing a most beloved game series in the form of a two-part blog feature.  Part I will start from the time when I first heard of the game and will cover from the beginning and all the way through my experiences with LEGO Rock Band and The Beatles: Rock Band.
