Taking a Break with Adventures!

This semester has not been stressful as previous semesters. But I have been busy with a lot of essays and projects for classes. Last week I decided to take a break from all of the work and go home for a few days. It was my niece’s birthday and my sister decided to go to a place called “The Jungle” in Concord, CA. I did not realize how stressed I was  from school until I was on my way to “The Jungle.” I was thinking about all of the assignments I had to do the following week. However, once I got to the place there were children playing in tunnels, slides, and bouncy houses. My sister was in the arcade playing a racing game with my niece. Their shoes were off and they were having a good time. My niece ran up to me with her two friends and they asked can I go to a bouncy area with her. I said yeah. At that moment all of my worries about school was over. I was in the moment of enjoying my niece and finally having a day to enjoy myself.

My sister joined us and we went inside a bouncy play area. It was amazing how everything was set up inside. It looked like a world of Super Mario with blown up flowers, and shapes to grab onto if you fall. We climbed up blown up stairs leading us to a slide. My sister and I went down to wide slide with my niece and her two friends all at once. It was scary and amazing at the same time. We all tried to get up and constantly fell. It was funny because we could be clumsy and silly without any judgement. Of course, with younger children around there is never judgement. My sister and I realized how old we were because we were out of breath. We went up the slide once more and got out. When we got out we did not have enough energy so we rolled out and landed on our backs. It was so funny that we could not stop laughing.

When we finally got up my niece ran to the tunnel and invited me. Of course, I was crazy enough to get in. We were climbing, sliding, and going through so many things I thought it would never end. I tried to keep up with my niece, but I realized I am taller now and older. When we finally got out my heart rate was beating quicker than I expected. Afterwards, we went to the arcade and played games. I have never played the dancing game or air hockey. I played and was pretty good at them. I have not felt so free in a long time.  I was happy that I took a break from school and went home for my niece’s birthday.

For all of you readers, if you want to take a break from school for just a day. I would not suggest to go to a party, night club, or do something that you are used to doing. I would suggest going out and doing something where you could feel like a kid and be silly for once. As we get older we forget how to have fun because of our load of responsibilities. Taking that one day off will be worth it. If you do not have time right now, try it after finals week. It will be worth the wait.

Midterm season

Yes everyone, Midterms are here and I am trying to get through them as soon as possible. My classes are going well so far, and proud of the progress I have been making this semester. However, many students are stressed out about classes right now. A few of my secrets for passing classes is 1) do not procrastinate and 2) pretend to enjoy each class.

When you do not procrastinate, assignments will be caught up before it’s time to study for an exam. And when you pretend to enjoy a class, the information will make sense. Or at least you can show up to class without frustration. These two choices may help you on track with class assignments, and motivate you to attend class.  Many students are not doing so well in their classes, which is discouraging them to attend class. If this is a reason you are not attending class, find a way to bring your grade up. We have about a month left to get caught up. So everyone, please do not discourage yourself we will have another break soon.

Unfortunately, Spring Break is over and it was kind of short. Everyone is not only worried about their classes, but in a down mood at this time of the semester. At least five of my friends called me the first week back from Spring Break for advice. The only advice I could give them is my 2 secrets. Do not procrastinate and pretend to enjoy class.  I do not blame anyone for being exhausted this time of the semester. Teachers are giving exams, quizzes, and essays right now. Furthermore, this bipolar weather has everyone’s mood up and down. It’s like an emotional roller coaster.

Luckily, there is not a lot of time left until summer break and it is making some of us anxious to have that break finally. All of your time and effort will be worth it once the semester is over knowing that you put in effort to pass your classes and can take an entire summer to relax, work, or whatever is planned for the summer. I honestly do not have plans for the summer yet. But I am looking forward to getting through my midterms to get one step closer to summer!

Easter

Easter is finally here! This was a holiday I used to spend with my family without understanding the meaning behind it. As a young child, meaning behind holidays does not matter. The only thing that matters is that the family gets together and celebrate the holiday with each other. I come from a big family so our family tradition was to visit our cousin’s house in Richmond, CA. The house has a back yard that has a hill and big enough for all of the children to search for Easter eggs. I remember going to the house, painting Easter eggs, and eating large plates of food. The parents would be in the backyard hiding the Easter eggs in the backyard , and us children would go to the back and do a Easter egg hunt. There was always a golden egg that had money in it. The adult’s loved me and knew I would share with my siblings, so they showed me where the golden egg was. I held on to the money until it was  time to go home. When my mom took my siblings and I home, we stopped by the store, and I bought us all snacks to eat. I used to love the Easter egg hunts.

Now that I am older, everyone in my family is working. No one has time take the entire day off for Easter. We all might work and get off early. But I realized that things change as you get older, especially the way you celebrate holidays. There are only a few children in our family right now who can do the Easter egg hunt. However, my cousin’s who held Easter each year at their house is older now. No one feels like doing the Easter egg hunt so my siblings, mother, and I meet up by five o’clock and eat dinner together. It isn’t much but it is enough to keep my family together for the holidays. We are now discussing a new way to celebrate Easter. For instance, doing more activities for my five year old niece to have something to look forward to each Easter, similar to what my siblings and I looked forward to each Easter. Although my family and I are older now, it is still great to have traditions to expand ideas for them in the future.

Spring Break

For some reason teachers tend to assign homework, quizzes, or exams the week after Spring Break. Luckily, I only had one quiz and a few assignments. My plan is usually the same each year, sleep in! I go home with my family because we celebrate my sister’s birthday every Spring Break. Afterwards, I sleep the rest of the week. As a senior I prepared myself to do all of my homework the last two days before Spring Break. This is helpful for me when I get home because I tend to procrastinate until the last minute and would likely miss the due date because I was too lazy to complete the assignment or quiz over break. I would recommend all students to do their homework before they begin their Spring Break to avoid those assignments that can get in the way of pure freedom. it is called Spring Break because students and faculty deserve a break. One week without homework, quizzes, and/or tests is a great feeling. Especially when you know half of your classmates will forget to turn in the work that is due. So everyone please get your classwork done ahead of time so you can enjoy your break with friends, family, and traveling. Do your classwork, take a break and enjoy this week off. Especially those of you who have little time for yourself this semester.

Valentine’s Day Plans

imagesValentine’s Day is one of those days that people either look forward to or not. Depending on if you have a date or not is what will get you in a good mood. I personally never have a Valentine or try to have a Valentine that day. Its not because I’m a grouch towards the lovey dovey thing. I usually look at others and laugh at how silly they could get about the person they love by doing romantic things. Also, how sad and lonely people are because they don’t have a relationship, or are too afraid to ask their crush to be their Valentine. So what am I looking forward to on Valentine’s Day? Being my own date and treating myself to anything I want to do. Taking myself out to eat or calling some of my single friends to have a single night out is usually a good choice. It’s too much to make plans and believe they are gonna go as planned. It’s best to wake up and see what you prefer to do that day. If you all have someone special in your life go ahead and share the love. If you have a crush go ahead and ask them to be your Valentine. If you have plans enjoy them. If you don’t have plans treat yourself or ask some friends to celebrate with you. It’s a day to share love to others and yourself. It shouldn’t be a day full of expectations but surprises. For all of you who have class on Tuesday it’s okay. I am kind of upset because it’s on a Tuesday and not on the weekend for everyone to enjoy their entire day.

If you all are curious about how Valentine’s Day came about I think it would be a great idea to look up the story. It’s a beautiful story about a man falling in love with a woman. The way they met was interesting and the way it ended makes a lot of sense of the day celebrated. After learning about the story I have a better understanding about Valentine’s Day. It helped me realize that Valentine’s Day isn’t about dates or presents. It’s about sharing love to others and yourself. So to the readers, go out and share your love others or even yourself. I hope everyone enjoy their Valentine’s Day. Hopefully there is enough information provided here for someone to get an idea of something to do for that day. Enjoy yourselves and share your love. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!

Super Bowl

superbowlI am not a huge fan of football, but watching the Super Bowl last year had me interested in watching it this year. The half-time show was interesting to watch because I didn’t expect so much entertainment during the game. I was with my roommates at the time and they were telling me how they were ready to see the performers during the half-time show. I asked why were they so thrilled and they provided a video from the 2015 Super Bowl half-time show. It was Katie Perry performing “fireworks” and she put on a great show. Last year Coldplay, Beyonce’, and Bruno Mars performed. It was a great performance, I didn’t expect the Super Bowl to be so live. After watching the performances from last year and 2015, i was ready to watch the Super Bowl to see who will perform this year. Lady Gaga performed and she did an amazing job. However, I expected to more performers than one so I was kind of disappointed. That is my fault because I was more interested in the half-time show than the actual game.
In contrast, the football game was interesting to watch. Of course I didn’t pay attention to the  entire game, but it got heated at the end. Both teams were tied and that made me want to watch the game. The Falcons and Patriots were tied for ten or more minutes and I was curious to see how either team would win. Of course they would be tied once the game is close to being done. The Patriots won the game and many fans were happy that their team won. There are many other games coming up but this game as interesting as last year. I am going to look out for more performances and commercials for the Super Bowl half-time shows. Hopefully it gets more interesting than this one game and performance.

Holiday Season Traditions

halloweentoholidayI love the holidays, especially this time of year. The weather is cold, you want to stay inside, and eating food with family is always the best solution.

Every Thanksgiving my family and I used to go to Richmond, California to visit our cousins and eat a large dinner. However, now that we are older things changed. No one is ever home because of work, school, or their own lives. Leading to us not seeing each other often.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two holidays my entire family have off. Our new tradition is staying at my mothers house the night before. I buy the pies, my sister buy the turkey, my brothers and mother buy the rest of the food. Thanksgiving morning my mom, grandma and sister get up early in the morning to bake the turkey and start the rest of the food. I wake up and talk to them as they are showing me how to cook. I’d rather not cook for thanksgiving because it is too many expectations to get a specific taste for the food.

Around ten o’clock my brothers wake up, my niece walk in the living room with joy, and we turn on entertainment. I don’t mean one specific thing either. We play music with the television on. Even of we are not paying attention to neither. We get dressed up, go to our cousins house in Richmond to eat their food. It is never enough there. So we hang out with our cousins and go back to my mothers house to eat our dinner. I usually buy about four sweet potato pies, two apple, and and two peach. That usually lasts us for two days if we eat all of the food first. I hide a fifth pie in my closet as a personal because I love pie. The next morning, someone always find my pie and we eat that with left overs. I really love the holidays.

Besides Thanksgiving Christmas is my favorite holiday. My family and I never used to have great Christmas Eve’s or mornings. Yet, as we got older we learned how to value each other and understand one another. After Thanksgiving is over my family and I decorate the Christmas tree with our mom playing holiday music. Every Christmas Eve we go in separate rooms to wrap each others gifts, then I help my sister wrap my niece’s gifts. We all put the presents under the tree once my niece is sleeping and go to sleep ourselves. The next morning my niece wake everyone up and we all gather around the tree. My niece gets her presents first, of course. Then we all open our gifts. It’s usually what each of us need or want. Afterwards, I bake chocolate chip cookies and make a ginger bread house with my brothers. Every year we decorate it differently. We watch our favorite Christmas movies while the food is cooking. They drink egg nog and I drink a little bit. When the food is done we eat dinner together and share our thanks and love to each other for another year.

Tips to survive the final wave of assignments

booksI have a few tips to survive the final wave of assignments.

Tip 1: Do not procrastinate. Of course this is always a suggestion, but no one actually does it. I have honestly been procrastinating this semester because of the weather. It makes me not want to do anything. I just want to stay in bed all day but I can’t. I recently checked my calendar and we have three weeks left of this semester after Thanksgiving. Two weeks for the lucky students. I have many assignments, tests, and papers do the week after Thanksgiving. I became overwhelmed for a while but then I had to stop myself and take a deep breath. I realized there is enough time to complete my assignments before the week of Thanksgiving. So the week that everything is due, I can have it completed ahead of time. This will give me enough time to study for my tests the two weeks after Thanksgiving without a huge workload.

Tip 2: If you have any tests, papers, or assignments due soon try to start them whenever you have free time. What I usually do is go to classes throughout the week, stay on campus to do homework, then go home. Completing assignments throughout the week will give you time to relax on weekends. Especially doing assignments once the class is over so you won’t forget later. I understand many students work over the weekend, go to parties, or have a few days off. If you complete your work throughout the week, there shouldn’t be a lot of assignments to complete over the weekend, and you can have your free time.

Tip 3: Staying on campus is a great way to survive the wave of assignments. The library and the AIRC is always available for students to study, do assignments, or projects. Also, making a study group with classmates to meet up on campus is helpful. Staying on campus gives you the choice of actually doing your work. Going home is too distracting. Your bed will look so comfortable, there are so many good movies and shows on television, and roommates are distracting. Just wait to go home until it’s actually time to go home.

Tip 4: The last thing I want to share is make sure you take naps throughout the day, eat a well balanced diet, and exercise if you have time. We all forget to take care of our bodies when the end of the semester comes. We go to class with sweats on, hair not done, probably four hours of sleep, and feel horrible when we wake up. Coffee is our only solution to get through the day.

The end of the semester is stressful but remember this is just another semester that will end soon. Keep a calendar in your phone with due dates and try to make a plan to where you can complete all of your assignments, projects, and papers ahead of time. Finals week will pass by faster than we know it. Good luck you all.

Halloween!!

halloweentown_6253519_ver1-0_640_360My favorite Halloween memories is going to school as a child and seeing everyone’s costume. It was interesting to see how creative people were when it came to dressing up; though I was the loner who never wore costumes as much as I wanted. An excitement came over me every year on Halloween because it was the only day people could dress up however they wanted and no one judged them. Trick or treating was cool when I got to see all of the creepy decorations everywhere. Of course, I was scared so my brothers had to walk with me to most doors. I just realized last year that I couldn’t trick or treat anymore. So I bought my own back of candy to eat. Halloween is the only time of year when candy seems okay to eat for an entire week and not care. I used to have a backpack full of candy hid in my room from my siblings.

A special tradition my sister and I have is to watch Disney Halloween movies for the entire month of October until Halloween night, which is our special night to watch Halloweentown. No, I am not talking about the second and third Halloweentown movies. I am talking about the original Halloweentown. Though it was a fiction movie, it gave my sister and I an impact on how we should believe in ourselves. Even when others don’t think believe in us. I remember pretending we were witches and making up spells that we thought would work. It never did work but we continued to try. Now my sister have a four year old daughter, and she look forward to the movie every year as much as my sister and I. It’s the only movie that can get my sister and I together to bond over candy and unhealthy food. Now that we are older we thought things would change. It never changed. Even when we are 100 miles away, we call each other over the phone and watch it together. All I can say is Halloweentown is a classic movie.

I miss being younger. Those were the years when anything or anyone mattered. I am looking forward to feeling that way this Halloween. Even if I don’t dress up I will buy candy and enjoy myself. As we get older we forget to enjoy ourselves and everything doesn’t have to be serious all the time. The only thing I have not done yet, but looking forward to doing is carving a jackolantern. No one took the time out to teach me how to do it, but I have always been curious about how to carve them. It seems like a messy project, but I think it will be well worth it. I really want to do something different this year. I don’t know if dressing up would be something exciting to do or what. All I can say is everyone, including myself, should go out and find something extreme to do this Halloween. Everyone work so hard. Halloween should be a day to dress up, eat a lot of candy, and enjoy the holiday since it comes once every year.

Binge watching TV Shows

TVThe last TV show I binge watched was Charmed. It’s an old show but my roommate and I watched it during the last month of summer. It’s a show about three sisters in San Francisco who find out they are powerful witches. They try to live normal lives but realize they have to save the world from demons who are trying to take over the world. Eventually, they have children and their lives get more challenging because the demons are trying to take control of their children. It’s pretty much a show about good versus evil. This show opened my eyes to many relationship problems and how the world can be with negative people. I just enjoy watching shows that combines fiction with real life situations. If you have not watched Charmed I suggest you watch it. I would advise you to watch the first few episodes to understand the background of the show, then skip to the end of season 3. There is more drama when season 4 begins through the last episode of the show. I know it sounds strange to recommend skipping almost three seasons, but the show is better that way. If you have watched the show, then you know what I am referring to. If not, you will find out the show is better when season 4 begins.

The next show I am looking forward to binge watching is Grey’s Anatomy. I began watching it towards the end of Spring semester. And watched at least four seasons before July. It still premiers on cable and has over ten seasons. I am trying to catch up with the episodes on cable, so I can watch the new season that’s already premiering. The show is about doctors who work in Seattle, WA. Everyone knows that doctors have a busy work schedule. So, it focuses on what doctor’s deal with inside and outside of work. Most of the characters are dating, competing, dealing with health issues, getting hurt, whatever you think of is in this show. Grey’s anatomy is not only a medical show, it addresses life situations. On top of that the show is hilarious. There are random moments where you have to think about what just happened and laugh. So far I really enjoy the show. I am excited to catch up with the new season. I am guilty of watching some of the episodes of season 9 on cable. I have never seen a show to last for more than at least eight seasons. And this show has over ten. I enjoy the mystery of what is going to happen next in this show. Many people are aware of this show, but I really think this a show to recommend to everyone. There is never a dull moment. You will learn to love all of the cast over the season’s. Although some of them may annoy you at times. There are different things that each character deal with that draws you to them even more. So if you all are looking for a show, check out Grey’s Anatomy.
