Mastodon? Who are they? A hot loud rock band currently trending now!!

Mastodon just so happens to be one of the hottest rock bands right now! They are an American band that has been around since 1999. Mastodon is a quartet composed of four members: Brent Hinds, Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher, and Troy Sanders. This band is from Atlanta, Georgia, and has been around since then, and continues to release new music. If I were to classify the genre of music that the band plays, I would say they are an Alternative Metal, Alternative/Indie Rock, and Heavy Metal. Many of you who have been listening to my show know that when I played Mastodon, I actually liked their music. One of the hottest albums that is out right now by Mastodon is Emperor of Sand which was released earlier this year. This album is by far one of the best albums that I have listened to, and have played since I became a fan of them. So, with that, I have really enjoyed listening to Mastodon. When I have listened to Mastodon, their music made me feel like that I wanted to listen to it more.

Okay, so what else is new with Mastodon? Not only do they have a new album out that was released this year, they also have been on tour doing concerts to their fans and those who have been listening to their songs. They happen to have a concert scheduled for May 2, 2017, in Silver Spring, MD.

My favorite song by Mastodon that I have played is “Show Yourself”. I like that song because of the excellent way they play the drums because it is easily noticeable that they play the drums in a way that people can hear them. It has an excellent guitar that I can also hear when I hear the drums.

I am surprised that Mastodon isn’t as loud as Slipknot. When I first heard of Mastodon, I did not know who they were until I started playing their music and researching about what band they are.

So, now do you have any questions about Mastodon? I think that may be enough since I have said some things about them earlier. I hope everyone has had a wonderful time reading and learning about Mastodon!

No more football. Oh no!

indexFootball season for the 2016/2017 is now over. What are we going to do when football teams are on their offseason? Wait, I have to admit that every team did their best this season, such as Cleveland Browns that broke their winless streak when the won against the San Diego Chargers, which are now Los Angeles Chargers. It’s amazing to see that what the football teams have done from the beginning of the season until the end of the season.

First, the NFC teams that I am happy that made the playoffs were Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, and Seattle Seahawks, which all of the teams lost which was quite unfortunate because I wanted to see either Dallas or Seattle in the championship game that occurred on Sunday, February 5, 2017. The teams that competed in the championship game were New England Patriots from AFC and Atlanta Falcons from NFC. When I was watching the game, I thought that Atlanta had it, but they blew off a 28-3 lead that ended up with 34-28 New England at the end of the game. It wasn’t an easy game, but it was worth it because the first time in history the game went to overtime in which that almost does not happen in football championships.

Now that football is over, what do we do? Well, hockey and basketball are going on and soon baseball will be on too. One of the recent basketball games was when Sacramento Kings faced the Golden State Warriors at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA. I was impressed with the game, not that I didn’t watch it, but the fact that it went to overtime. Sacramento Kings won the game with 109-106 in an overtime. It was a surprise to see that the Sacramento Kings won that game, well they are the NBA team in Sacramento. When will Sacramento get a WNBA team? We never know.

Baseball is almost here. Now that football is over, who is ready for baseball? I know I am! My favorite baseball team is Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles Dodgers recently added Sergio Romo to their team roster for the season. I wonder what’s in store for Chicago Cubs this season whether or not they are going for another championship. We will wait and see how the season goes.

Baseball is in the air

It’s the time of year for baseball!  Spring training has been going on for a few weeks and I am very excited to what this baseball season has in store. From football, to basketball, and now baseball, it’s time to see what is going to be in store for us this season. I like baseball a lot. Here in Sacramento, CA, we have our very own baseball team, Sacramento Rivercats! They have their games in West Sacramento over at Raley Field. I saw a Rivercats game last year and I had a lot of fun, and I hope to go again. Sacramento Rivercats has been in Sacramento for as long as I can remember.

This year, the Sacramento Rivercats will be playing San Francisco on March 30, 2016, at Raley Field. This year’s manager for the Sacramento Rivercats is Jose Alguacil with the help from Dwight Bernard and Damon Minor who are the hitting and pitching coaches.

I hope I can make it to a Rivercats game since it has been a while since my first one that I went to in August 2015.

Also, Major League Baseball has started their spring training already. This season is going to be great! My favorite teams are Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Atlanta Braves, and San Francisco Giants. I hope this summer I can go to a Dodgers game. I have not been to a Dodgers game in a very long time. I can’t remember when, but I was about ten years old around that time. I went with some friends from elementary school and we had a lot of fun at the game. When I went to Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers were playing against the Seattle Mariners. I was going for the Dodgers.

I love baseball and hope that this season will be awesome!  I watch the games and support every team in their game whether they win or lose. I hope that in the future I will go see Sacramento Rivercats and Los Angeles Dodgers play this summer.

Let the games begin!

Holiday’s Are Upon Us

photo-1423477491197-ec2f29ac4d6bThe holiday’s are upon us.  The city of Sacramento, CA, is filled with fun events for all ages during Christmas. In Old Sacramento, they have Macy’s Parade of Lights that is running from November 25, 2015, to December 25, 2015.  The parade of lights is different than what you would normally expect.  Old Sacramento’s parade of lights is a show you do not want to miss. There is also the ice skating rink on 7th and K streets.  Every time I walk by the skating rink, it makes me feel the Christmas spirit, and also want to go ice skating. I have not been ice skating since I was in junior high. Ice skating is a lot of fun if you are looking for something fun to do for the holidays.  The state capital lights up their tree and the lights are wonderful.  When I looked at the lights at the capital’s tree, it was wonderful, and the best Christmas lights I can ever imagine!  I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Another thing in Sacramento is Winter Wonderland which is held at Cal Expo where the state fair was held.  I have not been to Winter Wonderland, but when I have passed by there, it was beautiful. Ever since I moved to Sacramento, I have always wanted to go to that since it is a holiday carnival.  There is so much to do around Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, and Folsom.

Arden Fair Mall is packed with customers who are doing their Christmas shopping, especially on days such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  Those two days, a lot of stores have big sales going on with lots of customers going into buy their children gifts for Christmas.

Christmas music is played on many radio stations such as Star 106.5 and KYMX 96.1. I love listening to Christmas music because it brings me the spirit of Christmas.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from DJ Mel and Birdman Gio, the King of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Introducing DJ Mel

Reneactment of a dj

This is not Melanie Weaver, merely a reenactment of what Melanie Weaver would look like if she was pointing at a poster.

Hey everyone! I am Melanie Weaver, a junior at Sacramento State. This is my first semester at Sac State, and I am a liberal studies major and history minor. I decided to become a DJ for KSSU because I have had a passion for broadcasting since I was in sixth grade.  I had a friend who was co-hosting a show on a classic rock radio station that was located in Westwood, CA, and I was interested in being a guest DJ. I have been on the radio off and on since 2004.  Being a DJ is something that I have been interested in doing in my spare time because it’s fun. When I was a senior in high school, I was required to do a senior project. I had an idea in mind and that was to work for the community radio that was located in Quincy, CA. I had gone to the meetings that were required for the new DJ’s.  I was one of the youngest DJ’s that was part of the volunteer staff for the radio station. I am happy that I am a DJ for KSSU because I enjoy being on the radio and playing music for the listeners.

I host The Melster Mash every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm on KSSU DOTCOM on the TuneIn radio app. The music I play on the show comes from music that I enjoy listening to. I am very happy that I have come this far and enjoy working for KSSU as part of the volunteer staff. It’s amazing and I like to do this during my spare time.

I hope you continue to listen to my show every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm on KSSU DOTCOM. I am playing music from the 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s, 10’s, and today. Definitely worth listening to.

Thank you to the fans who have listened and the ones who will be listening. Keep it tuned to KSSU DOTCOM for awesome shows by our current DJ’s for KSSU.
