TBD Fest 2014 Review

10497888_977879928905052_6671002027215165432_oAnd just like that, TBD Fest 2014 came and went.  I won’t bore you with the historical background of this festival (I already did that).  So lets get to it!

There were some technical difficulties of sorts to start things off.  The crowd was not let in to the grounds on opening day, October 3rd, until close to the close of amazing local band Autumn Sky’s set around 4 PM’ish.  Once things opened up and everyone came in, amazing happened.  I could tell you how amazing so many artists were this weekend, but that would be a very lengthy read for you.  Instead, just know that many were extremely on point.  But for the sake of getting it out there, here’s a list of bands I saw (in no particular order except from me reading the schedule from Friday to Sunday):  Autumn Sky, Who Cares, Exmag, Young Rising Sons, The Drums, Gramatik, Com Truise, Dillon Francis, Danny Brown, French Horn Rebellion, The War on Drugs, Male Gaze, Smallpools, Sister Crayon, MS MR, Teen Daze, Explosions in the Sky, Keys N Krates, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Total Slacker, Deltron 3030, 8th Grader, and Yacht. Review: Sacramento Burger Battle 2013

579660_10202032249427720_1518637329_nIt has been roughly one year since the first ever Sacramento Burger Battle.  I was pleased, excited, and hungry to hear that it would be coming back again in 2013.  On September 18th, 2013, the 2nd Annual Sacramento Burger Battle kicked (or should I say cooked) off.  This year, restaurants present were: Chef’s Table (2012 Sacramento Burger Battle Champion), Krush Burger (2012 Sacramento Burger Battle People’s Choice Winner), Bacon & Butter, Ettore’s European Bakery & Restaurant, de Vere’s Irish Pub, Broderick Restaurant and Bar, Ten22, Willie’s Burger, Capitol Garage, Relish Burger Bar, The Eatery, Papa Dale’s, Roxy Restaurant & Bar, Formoli’s Bistro, and Restaurant Thir13en.  To help wash it down, attendees had the choices of: Revolution Wines, Andis Wines, Berryessa Gap Vineyards, Lagunitas, Ruhstaller Beer, New Helvetia Brewing Company, Old Glory Brewing Company, Six Rivers Brewery, Crispin Cider, and Barsotti Family Juice Company.  [Read more…]

Sac Burger Battle Review

On Tuesday, September 18th, Sacramento saw its first ever Burger Battle.  It was a vicioius cook off of epic culinary arts between de Vere’s Irish Pub, Restaurant Thir13en, The Eatery, Kupros Bistro, Delta King, The Chef’s Table, Michelangelo’s Restaurant, Grange Restaurant and Bar, The Porch, The Golden Bear, The Squeeze Inn, Ettore’s Bakery and Restaurant, Flaming Grill Cafe, Shady Lady Saloon, and Krush Burger.  With all those names, plus more, there was much to consume on this evening.  For my part, I consumed all I could.

The atmosphere was great.  A burger battle at a baseball field is an American-ly awesome as it gets.  To top it off, Hero’s Last Mission, a Sacramento local hot band, provided various sets throughout the evening.  And just when you thought it couldn’t get better, there were various drinks all around to be had. Some not to secret ideas to having a great summer

Summer is upon us in sunny Sacramento!  Getting tired of sitting around watching “Jersey Shore” re-runs?  Well I don’t blame you, but don’t just sit around and waste your summer!  Do some of these ideas to beat the heat and boredom!

1.  Pack up your favorite friends and foods and head down to a local park for a picnic.  A personal favorite of mine is McKinley Park downtown; they have a large pond and plenty of play structures for your kids (or even you) to play on.

2.  Every Wednesday Big Spoon has dollar days, so bike over and get some tasty frozen treats!

3.  Spend a day at a local shelter and play with the animals!  Happy Tails is a cat sanctuary that allows you to spend time with all the adorable felines.

4.  With the warmer weather coming in, head downtown every second Saturday of the month and spend your night wandering throughout the free art galleries and support local artists.

5.  Head to Raley Field and check out the Oakland Athletics AAA team the River Cats.

6.  Check out both local and famous comedians at the Punchline comedy club and The Comedy Spot.

7.  See what used to be at the “Old Towns” of Sacramento, Folsom, Roseville and Elk Grove.

8.  Ever wonder what politicians do?  Me too!  Go check out the capitol and see!  Maybe even wander the grounds and see the beautiful foliage.

9.  Put on sunscreen and head to the American River!  You can have a barbecue or even float down it.

10.  Have you ever wondered what a room full of happiness looks likes?  Well then go to Sky High and see the magical sight that is the trampolines and foam pit.
