Plans for Valentine’s Day?

Every year on Valentine’s Day I plan to have a friend date, take myself out on a date, or attend events on campus. However, this Valentine’s Day was different. I did not have time to plan anything with friends or attend events on campus because I had to go to class that entire day. So I made a plan to bring love to my job the next day on Friday.

If some of you are not familiar with Love Your Body Week, it is a special week that happens every year during the week of Valentine’s Day. If you go to The Well often, you would have seen post-its with pictures and quotes on mirrors and windows aiming towards boosting self-confidence. My assumption is that The Well does this to help individuals ignore the way that they look and think about how important their presence is to others, and bringing awareness to loving one’s own body. We all come in different shades, sizes, and shapes and we are all beautiful. It is okay to be reminded that self-love is the best kind of love.

With that being said, I went to work on Friday and shared love to everyone I interacted with. My job has a dessert station that I work at and I wrote quotes on the glass that surrounds my dessert . I wrote “Love Your Body”, “Good Vibes”,”Nothing is Sweeter Than Your Love” (which was a quote suggested by one of my customers so I put his initials underneath the quote) and I put up a “Free Hugs” sign.

The idea of writing the quotes was to bring happiness and self-love to individuals who did not attend The Well this week. The sign stating that I give free hugs was for students who had a long or rough week and needed a hug. Sometimes hugs are needed after a long week.

A lot of people had a date or a Valentine this week, some had neither, and some had exams and assignment deadlines. What a bummer.

My plan this week was to make at least one person smile, but as it turns out I made many people smile and feel good about themselves. It felt great to make people feel good about themselves and get them in a good mood after a long week of school. That way their weekend can start and end positively to prepare for the next week.

It is important to me that everyone had a good week. Some advice I could give is this: If you like a person, like them; if you want to speak to someone, speak to them; if you want to eat something, delicious go for it; if you want to go to the gym to flex your muscles in the mirror, do it; if you want to call your friends or loved ones, do it. Do something adventurous and fun this weekend, as long as it makes you happy.

Remember to love your bodies every day and that you are always loved by someone, especially Sparky!

Super Smash Bros. For Wii U, A Smashing Good Time

I know the game has been out for a while, but I just wanted to give credit where credit is due. The older Smash Bros. fans will shout “Super Smash Bros. Melee was the best and will always be the best”, but what Nintendo did for SSB for Wii U has taken this series to another level. Enhanced graphics, new characters, different combo options, even more dangerous maps, and 8-player mode all come with the new and improved Super Smash Bros. Also, a player can still use regular Wii remotes on the Wii U, so this makes it easier for lazy people (like me) who do not wish to adapt to the new Wii U controller, which has a screen in the middle of it in case you wanted to use the bathroom without interrupting the game for everyone else.

A list of the new characters include: Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Animal Crossing Villager, Rosalina & Luma, Little Mac, Greninja, Customizable Mii Fighters, Palutena, Robin, Shulk, Lucina, Pac-Man, Dark Pit, Bowser Jr. (with all other koopa kids), and the duck and dog from duck hunt. Also, Zero Suit Samus is available as a starting character as opposed to Regular Samus from SSB Brawl, where you would need to hit a “special ball” in order to become zero suit samus. As for DLC characters, there is only one: Mewtwo. Mewtwo from Melee and Lucario from Brawl had very, very similar attacks so I hope that this new Mewtwo comes with new attacks or other surprises. I personally only got to play as Palutena, Little Mac, Bowser Jr. and Shulk. Palutena you have to get used too. Little Mac is HIGHLY powerful and if you can hone in on timing his attacks, you will be unstoppable. I played as a Bowser Jr. who had a cannon and could also detach himself from his little vehicle thing to place a bomb inside it before returning, which killed my friend about eight times. Shulk is a swordsman character, but his “B” move allows you to use a sort of perk with choices of speed, power, or defense. Trust me, they really do help.

This is pretty much the extent of my knowledge because I just spent thirty minutes in a GameStop doing a trial run of the game and now I wish i wasn’t a broke student so I could purchase a Wii U just for this game. If you live a life without regrets, buy this game and you will not be disappointed.

Much love,

Ok, Cupid…

BrandiSo, yesterday was Valentine’s Day (AKA Single Awareness Day) and the end of the world must be coming soon because the strangest thing happened…I actually had a date. Okay, Apocalypse. I’m ready to die.

But seriously, I had a first date with a guy that I met online (OKCupid) and I was really nervous about the whole thing. I don’t really do online dating. And even if I actually do online dating, I never plan on meeting the person. So, I’m basically entering new territory. A few days before the date, I talked to a couple of friends about how nervous I was and how I had the entire date planned out in my mind and I asked if I was over reacting. They all answered with a resounding “Yes.” So, I guess I didn’t have anything to worry about. Right? We went to Wing stop (because it’s close to my house and if he turned out to be a psycho, I could just devise some sort of quick escape plan and run home) and we had lunch. However, we weren’t alone. My friends were sitting at a separate table on the other side of the restaurant watching our every move. Yeah, I was super paranoid that this guy was going to kidnap me on sight, so I brought back up. I think I watch too much television. My guy friends even suggested that I should have worn metal armor on the date as a way to look hot as well as defend myself. I most certainly considered it.

The date started at 2:00PM and he arrived on time; that’s a good sign. I showed up twelve minutes later just to keep him on his toes. I guess making him wait a minute seemed to have worked because the second I stepped in the door, he seemed that much more excited to see me; tt was pretty cute. Then we ordered our food. Now, I know that the man is usually supposed to pay for the meal, but I brought a 20 dollar bill just in case he was a scrub, but, no he paid for the meal with no hesitation. There goes another good sign, we sit down at the table and we begin to talk and get to know each other better. He can hold a conversation better than any other guy that I have ever been with. He was inquisitive, so he asked a lot of questions about me, and what I’m doing with my life. It may not seem like a big deal, but for me it was great to finally talk to a guy that wasn’t going to pester me for sex within the first 20 minutes of the conversation. It’s a shame that I should be grateful for a guy simply holding a normal conversation with me because I’m not used to it. Come on dudes, get it together (Not all guys, Love you!) Then we went on to discuss music because he’s a KSSU listener and enjoys my show (Eargasms & Gitter Showers, Tuesdays at 4pm) and I let him go through my iPod and attempt to pick out the playlist for my next show. He seemed to enjoy my taste in music, so there goes another good sign. Anyway, after the date, he (awkwardly) hugged me (it’s only the first meeting…baby steps, Brandi. baby steps) and then asked me for a second date & I agreed. We haven’t worked out where it will be or when yet, but it is definitely happening.

So, now I am here and I am nervous for a whole new reason:

I, Brandi Marie, have now entered into the Dating Zone with a guy after five years of being the queen of No Man’s Land.

Thanks for reading. Peace & glittergasms to all. ❤

If you are a fan of Brandi’s writing you’ll enjoy her show even more on KSSU

The Ghost Inside/ Attila/ Volumes Album Reviews.

I want to take a moment and talk about some news albums that came out recently, and by recently I mean within the last six months. The Ghost Inside, Attila, and Volumes all dropped some heavy stuff and I checked out all their new albums. Holy snap crackle and pop, they were extravagant. The Ghost Inside with some hardcore melodies, Attila with their IDGAF in-your-face attitude, ad Volumes with a melodic change for the better.

Once again, the Ghost Inside have proven themselves to be one of the leading bands in the hardcore scene. To all those who say they went “mainstream” and are not underground anymore, I say to you, screw that. If a band can make it big and get paid more so they can actually afford nice things instead of sticking to the underground and getting paid diddly squat for a run down apartment, I say go for it and get big. The first song “Avalanche” straight up pumps up the mood for everybody with a nice build up in the beginning and gang vocals to breakdown as a finisher. The debut song “Dear Youth” covers all aspects of a great song; powerful riffs, relatable lyrics, empowering breakdowns, and a harmony that is off the chain. Well done The Ghost Inside.

First off, Attila is not a band meant to be taken as “meaningful” or important to your life goals. They are a party hard, DGAF kind of band with a new album called “Guilty Pleasure”. With a mix between brutal exhales and rapping, Fronz (vocalist) has multiple virtuoso moments throughout the song. Some tracks make me shake my head and say “what the heck is this” but tracks like “Guilty Pleasure” and “Horse Pig” get me throwing chairs and flipping tables. Again, they are not very deep and philosophical, but they kill it live. I speak from past experiences when i say they put on a fantastic show with lights, and 8O8 drops. This new album will take their concerts to the next level. I saw an Instagram video of a huge wall of death to one of their new songs and that is enough to convince me that this new album is worth purchasing.

Last but certainly not least, Volumes. Volumes is a Djent band well-known for their breakdowns, but their album “No Sleep” was not what fans expected this album had a lot of lighter, more melodic tracks on it. Don’t get me wrong, the tracks are amazing and I am happy to hear that Volume’s use of music theory and desire to do less heavy music in their future, but Volumes received a lot of fire. In their song “The Mixture”, the lyrics say “you can have metal back” and in an interview, the vocalists said they are dropping from their label to pursue music on their own path. The album “No Sleep” is the first step in Volumes new style and wave of music, and I love every bit of it.

Thanks for reading, I am DJGingerbeard and to hear music from The Ghost Inside and Volumes (Attila is too vulgar) tune into my show “Shred the Gnar” every Thursday at 9am on

My Valentine’s Day

Since I am single, I don’t do anything that romantic on Valentine’s Day. I don’t do anything special except for wishing everyone a great “Happy Valentine’s Day.”

Valentines Day: Then vs. Now

Valentines Day was always that special holiday that no one gets a day off for, but still gets acknowledged. It’s a day of love, where guys buy women chocolates that’ll never be eaten, or women get mad because they didn’t get said chocolates. Where couples go out or people confess feelings. Love it or hate it, you will be surrounded by love, every February 14th of your life. But like all things in your life, it changes.

I’m going to look back to where times were simpler, elementary school, and compare it to the adult days now.

Love and Happiness

There is this one day of the year where big things happen. People get engaged, people finally admit hidden feelings, and some people cry themselves to sleep with a quart of melting ice cream. People also buy a TON of stuff. According to the National Retail Foundation, the average person celebrating will spend $126.03 (this is the biggest number since this yearly survey began 10 years ago), this Valentine’s Day, for a total of $17.6 billion spent nation-wide.

Single on Valentine’s Day

valentines day solo

Love is in the air. Convenience stores are filled with hearts and chocolate. Couple are (lovingly) squeezing the life out of each other. It is February, the month of love. Within this month is Valentine’s day, a day that everybody thinks they need a date or a significant other, but what about us single people? What do we do on Valentine’s day? Personally, I do what every other single human does. I get up, stretch, open the blinds to a beautiful sunrise, walk into my bathroom, look at myself and say, “You are alone.”
