Late last month California Governor Jerry Brown declared a drought emergency, asking Californians to reduce their water usage by 20%. California has entered its third consecutive year of low rainfall. At the press conference, Brown stated that California is facing one of the worst droughts that the state has ever seen in the past 100 years that rainfall has been recorded. What makes it worst is that California could possibly be heading into a “megadrought.”
I’m not much of a movie buff, but one thing I do know is music, more specifically, hip-hop music. There has been some prominent movies released in my lifetime, and their soundtracks did not fail to deliver. Here’s my top 5 movie soundtrack list of all time.
5. Boomerang
This movie was hilarious and one of my personal favorites from Eddie Murphy. The soundtrack was pretty good too. It’s the softest album on my list, due to a large presence of R&B, but it still managed to produce the classic track, “Hot Sex” by A Tribe Called Quest. That song coupled with the classic love ballad “End of the Road” by Boyz II Men did enough to crack the top 5.
Music is a critical part of movies. Music creates the mood of a scene and, great care is taken into choosing the music that will be included in films. Quentin Tarantino, for example, has always claimed that music is an essential part of creating moods in his movies, even going to far as to not film the infamous scene where Uma Thurman dances (barefoot, of course, because Tarantino loves him some feet) in her living room to Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man” right before she overdoses on heroin. For him, that scene would not have been right without that song. Some songs written specifically for movies have become a part of our pop culture, like songs from Grease and “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion for Titanic. The Oscars always includes categories for music, and this year Adele won an Oscar for the James Bond theme, “Skyfall.” Below, I have compiled a list of my five favorite movie soundtracks.
