Stadiums Over Schools Not Good for Sacramento

I’ve got an opinion. It’s a very, very unpopular one, particularly with many of the other DJ’s at KSSU. My opinion is this: I strongly dislike major league professional sports and the amount of time, energy, and money that are devoted to them. It’s not that I don’t like sports in general; I played sports all throughout childhood and have good memories of the teams I played for. But major league sports, where athletes are paid millions of dollars for playing a game, is something I just don’t get. [Read more…]

Why people watch the Super Bowl

As much as I hate to admit it, Baseball is no longer America’s national past time.  ESPN bumps meaningful baseball games in the last month of the season to ESPN 2 in favor of preseason NFL games.  And while only about 25 million people tuned in to watch Game 7 of last year’s World Series between the Rangers and Cardinals (in what was maybe the greatest World Series of my lifetime), the NFL will easily crack 100 Million viewers this Sunday, even if the game is a blowout. I Shouldn’t Have to Write This: Explaining My Fandom

I don’t feel like I should have to write this, but people have been questioning my fandom so I’m going to.

A hot subject on Twitter is often people’s favorite teams, and how they became a fan of those teams.  No matter where you’re from, or who you are a fan of, you’ll undoubtedly get grief from somebody for it.

Personally, I catch a lot flack for liking the A’s and 49ers.  I also get a lot of grief for being a fan of Notre Dame Football.  So, rather than attempt to explain myself in 140 characters, I will do it in a blog.  [Read more…]

New Season in San Jose

On Saturday, October 8, 2011, head coach Rob McClellan and the San Jose Sharks start out a new and what hopes to be a promising season for them. Unlike last year, losing in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals to the number 1 public enemy in the 408, the Vancouver Canucks, this year seems to be hopeful, with the additions of Brent Burns, and Marty Havlat, who didn’t play on Saturday due to an injury. Our Relationships With Our Favorite Teams

Re-blogging this because I like it.  Originally posted January 22, 2011, but edited to be relevant today.

This was going to be a blog about why Monta Ellis of the Golden State Warriors should have been an All-Star for the 2010-2011 season.  But all that was going to be was my biased opinion towards one of my favorite players, coupled with a few stats.  So, trust me that Monta is good, and should have been an All-Star.  If you don’t believe me, watch some highlights and look up the numbers.  I don’t need a full blog to tell you that.

On the subject of the Golden State Warriors though, I was watching them play the Kings one Friday night and couldn’t help but become infuriated watching them make the same mistakes they’ve made over, and over and over again.  It’s the same thing with all of my favorite teams: the 49ers, the A’s, the Sharks, and of course, the Warriors.  They all do the same things wrong, every game, every season.  It may not be the same thing every year, but there’s something that causes their lackluster performances every season.  Whether it’s the Warriors’ poor defense and shot selection, whether it’s the 49ers conservative offense and over-aggressive defense, the A’s inability to have a clutch hit, or the Sharks inability to play defense when it counts, it is all FRUSTRATING.
