EDM and Pop Culture

Tiesto, Afrojack and Calvin Harris are very well known EDM (electronic dance music) DJs that are going to be headlining this years Electric Bounce House in San Jose California. If you are an EDM fanatic, you really do not wanna miss this event. These three DJs/producers are only a few of the most popular DJs out there at the moment, alongside David Guetta and Avicii, just to name a couple more. The real question is, how many of you would have known any of these DJs if it wasn’t for our current popular culture? How many people would know that some of these “DJs” are behind some of the most popular tracks performed by Rihanna or Chris Brown?

99.7 San Jose’s Electric Bounce House event

EDM and pop culture go hand in hand nowadays. This was definitely not the case a few years back. I was introduced to electronic music back when it was more “underground.” The days that Tiesto was a trance DJ and names like Paul Van Dyk, Carl Cox or Floorfilla were very popular. Now, David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Afrojack have influenced a lot of today’s pop sound with their classic EDM style of music. Songs like “Look At Me Now” by Chris Brown, Rhianna’s “We Found Love” and “Turn Me On” by Nicki Minaj have all been produced by EDM DJs and that would have never happened in the past, especially with hip-hop artists. EDM and pop culture are headed down the right track as long as the people don’t jump on the bandwagon and actually want to go a step further to try and find out more about the culture, instead of throwing on a tutu, putting some flowers on their hair, and buying EDC tickets and all of a sudden become “ravers.”

Tutu-Ravers

Tutus are for children playing dress-up. Not EDM festivals. Ladies, just don’t. It’s not cute.

The EDM scene has come a long way and the DJs on top have to make the most of it and come out with great music in order for the pop culture to appreciate incredible beats. I’m actually very happy with the acceptance that EDM has been getting with TV and radio and I hope it keeps growing in a positive way.
